© Warner Bros. PicturesHarry Potter is an endlessly fascinating hit franchise. The ever-expanding wizarding world has already inspired web hubs, theme parks, and, probably most importantly, movies, even while author J.K. Rowling has become, more and more, a problematic figure. When Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone got the big-screen treatment in 2001 with director Chris Columbus, writer Steve Kloves, and stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, the story of the boy with the lightning-bolt scar got a second, more potent life by making all of the book’s fantastical magic, hidden worlds, and incredible creatures ’real.’ Sorcerer’s Stone grossed almost $1 billion worldwide and created a hunger for more Potter experiences, justifying successful adaptations (including a two-part finale) and spinoff prequels about fantastic beasts.
Maybe years ago, you bought coveted DVD collections, but those might be lost somewhere at your parents’ house. In the age of streaming, you’d probably much rather watch the movies somewhere online anyway. Here’s where you can get your Potter binge (or re-bingeing) fix right now. © Warner Bros.
This title may not be available to watch from your location. Go to amazon.com to see the video catalog in United States. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Parts One and Two: The Official Playscript of the Original West End Production (Harry Potter Officl Playscript) by J.K. Rowling and John Tiffany 10 February 2018.Rent the Potter movies on Amazon, iTunes, YouTube, etc. You’ll have to pony up for individual movies if you need a Hogwarts fix. That means none of the major streaming services (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon) offer them as part of their subscription lineup right now, which is a bummer, but that’s what happens when a movie or series is in high demand. A la carte it is. You can ’accio’ them by renting any installment on all major VOD platforms, including Amazon, iTunes, Google Play, Vudu, and YouTube. Watch all the Harry Potter movies on TVSince NBCUniversal owns the rights to air the series on TV, watching them on one of its channels is the next best place to find Hogwarts adventures. While you may remember FreeForm (a Disney-owned channel) used to have Harry Potter weekends, you won’t find them there anymore. Now, they’re on USA and SyFy, and the networks have Potter marathons fairly frequently. If you have a cable subscription that includes those channels, you can check out TV Guide’s listings to see when they’ll be playing next.Sign up for Peacock for now
Even though the Harry Potter franchise is technically a WarnerMedia property since the films were distributed by Warner Bros., and therefore should be housed on Warner’s platform HBO Max, there’s a deal dating back to 2016 that gives NBCUniversal the TV and digital rights to the films until 2025. Meaning, in addition to airing on NBC’s cable channels, they’ll also arrive on NBC’s streaming platform Peacock from time to time. The movies aren’t available to stream there right now, having left after a brief stint in fall 2020—but according to The Observer, they’ll be back sometime in early 2021.
To prepare for your inevitable marathon, you can sign up for Peacock here now. Because the streaming service is supported by ads, a basic subscription is totally free, and you might already be eligible for an account based on your cable provider since the platform has deals with Xfinity and Cox.
Eventually, the Hogwarts Express will pull back into HBO Max where it was stationed upon that platform’s spring 2020 launch—but again, that won’t be for awhile. So in the meantime, Potter-Heads might find a Peacock subscription useful. Need help finding something to watch? OprahMag.com has taken the liberty of finding where all of the Harry Potter movies are streaming right now. Here’s how you can watch, from Amazon to YouTube.
Every Potterhead knows that nothing else can quite match the comfort and nostalgia that comes with the Harry Potter series. That’s why we’re constantly looking for books that can fill their void, checking out virtual Universal Studios rides from the comfort of our couches, and buying all the swag we can get our hands on. Oh, and lets not forget the movies. No matter if it’s the Sorcerer’s Stone or the final installment Deathly Hallows: Part 2, the moment you start watching those films, you’re instantly transported to the moment you were first introduced to the magical world created by J.K. Rowling.
But just like our favorite Golden Trio, the film series is an extremely tricky bunch. If you don’t have the luxury of owning them yourself, it can be hard to keep track of where exactly you can stream or watch the eight films in the series. And unfortunately, they aren’t available on certain streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, or Disney Plus. But not to worry, that’s where we come in.
Luckily, for diehard fans of the series, where there’s a will, there’s a way. After the Chief Content Officer of HBO Max, Kevin Reilly previously told Business Insider that there’s ’active engagement’ around getting the Harry Potter series and that it was ’high on our priority list,’ the streaming service just announced that all eight (yes, all eight!) of the movies will be available to stream on their newly launched platform.
You also may have heard back in 2016 that the movies—and the spinoff series, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them—are available on NBC’s broadcast network stations Syfy, USA, Bravo, Oxygen, E!, UniKids. Throughout the year, Harry Potter marathons are selectively aired on these networks. We’ve included the month’s television schedule below.
As far catching them online, NBC tells OprahMag.com that fans have access to them during ’streaming windows’ throughout the year. When they are available, you can find them on USA’s website, which also has Harry Potter quizzes, photos, and quote roundups galore.
For those times when the films aren’t readily available on USANetwork.com, or you need a different streaming option, OprahMag.com has taken the liberty of finding other places where Harry Potter is airing and streaming right now. And spoiler: One of the answers is Amazon, for $3.99 each.Harry Potter Watch full movie, online
And one more pro-tip? If you’re in the mood, as of April 1, you can now stream the first Harry Potter book on Audible—narrated by Stephen Fry—for free.
